INTRODUCTION: In the first part of this series, we discovered that there are lines of heredity: (i) thee flesh line which produces the natural man and (ii) the spiritual line which produces the spiritual man. We also learnt the characteristics of both the natural man and the spiritual man. In this study, we want to know how to fight the battle between the Spirit and the flesh. May the Lord Himself teach us how to be over comers in Jesus name. Amen.

1. HOW TO FIGHT THE WAR BETWEEN THE OLD MAN AND THE NEW 

When a man has just receive spiritual birth, a big battle starts between the old man (the flesh) and the new man. The battle continues till death separates the flesh from the spirit. Consequently, if you are to win, here are some hints, (i) be constantly vigilant (ii) do not repose your confidence in the flesh or fleshy things (iii) make no provisions for the flesh to fulfill its lusts (iv) feed the new nature regularly in the word of God (v) walk constantly in the spirit.

2. THREE WAYS TO OVERCOME THE FLESH

There are three major ways to practically overcome the flesh. The first is by amputation. To amputate is to cut off, get rid off completely. The second is by mortification. To mortify is to cause some part of a living body to die. The third is by limitation. Therefore, whatever is in your life that needs to be amputate or mortify or limit, do not spare them.
