Sermon: A
Life Reboot Romans 3:21-25
Good
morning! How many of you have ever had your phone or computer freeze? That
spinning wheel, the unresponsive screen—you tap and swipe, but nothing happens.
What’s the universal fix? The reboot. You power it down and restart it. It
clears out the glitches, closes the frozen programs, and often, everything
works like new again.
What if
our lives need that same kind of reset? Maybe you feel stuck in a routine you
didn't choose. Maybe past mistakes feel like a programme running in the
background, slowing you down. Maybe anxiety, regret, or just a sense of
emptiness has frozen your joy. The good news is this: God is in the business of
life reboots.
The Bible
isn’t about self-help tips to optimise the old, frozen operating system. It’s
about a complete, spiritual reboot made possible through Jesus Christ.
I. The
Need for a Reboot: Our Frozen State
We all
sense something isn’t right. The Bible gives a clear diagnosis for this glitch.
It’s called sin—not just the bad things we do, but a deeper condition of being
disconnected from our Creator, the Source of life.
Romans
3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” We all
miss the mark.
Romans
6:23a reveals the consequence: “For the wages of sin is death...” This is
spiritual death—separation from God, the source of purpose and peace.
On our
own, we can’t fix this. We try to force-quit a few bad habits and install a new
motivational app, but the core problem remains. We need a new power source. We
need a new operating system.
II. The
Reboot Button: Grace Through Faith
Here is
the most beautiful news in the universe. God didn’t leave us frozen. He
provided the reboot.
Ephesians
2:4-5, 8-9 lays it out:
“But
because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with
Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been
saved... For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not
from yourselves; it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
1. The
Power Source: GRACE. Grace is God’s unearned, undeserved favour. You don’t earn
a reboot; you receive it. It’s a gift. While “the wages of sin is death”, the
verse completes itself: “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus
our Lord” (Rom. 6:23b). The reboot is a gift.
2. The
Action: FAITH. Faith is not just intellectual agreement. It’s the act of
reaching out and accepting the gift. It’s saying, “God, I can’t fix myself. I
trust that what Jesus did is enough for me.”
What did
Jesus do? He lived the perfect life we couldn’t live, died on the cross to pay
the penalty for our sins, and rose from the dead to defeat death and offer us
new life. This is the reboot moment. When we place our faith in Him, our old,
sinful self—with all its guilt and broken patterns—is put to death with Christ.
And we are raised to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4).
III. The
New Operating System: Life in Christ
A reboot
isn’t just about fixing the old; it’s about starting fresh with something new.
2
Corinthians 5:17 declares, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation
has come: the old has gone, the new is here!”
When you
trust in Christ:
Your past
is cleared. Your sins are forgiven, wiped clean. “As far as the east is from
the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12). The
guilt programme is uninstalled.
Your Present is Empowered. You receive the Holy Spirit—God’s presence living in you. He’s your new power source, your guide, your comforter, helping you live differently (Galatians 5:22-23).
Your
Future is Secure. You have eternal life and a purpose that starts now. You are
God’s “handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared
in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). Your rebooted life has meaning.
IV. How
to Initiate the Reboot
Maybe
you’re here today and you know your life is frozen. You need this reboot. It
starts with a simple, honest prayer of faith. It sounds like this:
“God, I
admit I need a reboot. I’ve tried to run my own life, and I’ve fallen short. I
believe Jesus died for my sins and rose again. I accept your gift of grace
right now. Forgive me. Reboot my life. Make me a new creation in Christ. Take
my life and use it for your purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
If you
prayed that today, you’ve been rebooted. The old is gone; the new has come.
Tell someone. Get connected to a church that will help you grow in this new
life. Start reading the Bible—maybe the book of John—to learn about your new
Savior.
Closing:
You don’t have to live with the spinning wheel of anxiety, regret, or
emptiness. God is offering you a complete life reboot today. Will you receive
it?
CALL
TO ALTER
You
can’t reboot by your power
John 5:30
“I
can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge and my judgment is just;
because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent
me.”
You
need the way himself: John 14:6
(“Jesus
saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me. ”)
If
you have not given your life to Jesus, come out now is the time, so you can
cross successfully.
You need to give your life to Jesus so you won’t sink.
If you have given your life to Jesus, I say congratulations,
but if you have not, I want you to say these:
Lord Jesus, I have come to you as a sinner.
Please accept me and forgive me for all my sins.
I surrender my life to you from now on, and I accept you as my personal Lord and saviour.
