House Fellowship Leader Manual April 2023,

TOPIC: Be Fruitful And Multiply

OPENING PRAYER: Father, please make all members of House Fellowship fruitful.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The leader should remind members of the dangers of neglecting good news .

MEMORY VERSE: “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” – Genesis 1:28 (KJV)

BIBLE TEXT: Genesis 1:26-28 (KJV)

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: God gave to man the ability to reproduce himself, to gave birth to children. God instead of creating the whole human race by a single word, created one man and one woman and said to them, “I permit you to give birth to my children, to rear, educate, and care for them, teaching them to love me and to respond to my heart yearning.” So, man’s real business was to give birth to God’s children both physically and spirituality through SOUL WINNING.

God also gave His children ability to prosper according to 3 John 1:2. Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. This gives a responsibility to man that can only be measured by eternity.

TURNING ON THE SHOWERS OF BLESSING (2)

Text: III John 2

INTRODUCTION:

In the last part of this series, we learnt that true and enduring

prosperity is from the Almighty God and that only the true children

of God are entitled to God's blessing, as the wicked also do

prosper in their own ways.

Today, as we continue in our series, may the Lord teach us

Himself and shower His blessings upon us in Jesus name.

1. SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS IS ALL ROUND PROSPERITY

Man is made up of three components namely the body, souls and

spirit. Showers of blessing must therefore include physical, soulish

and spiritual blessing i.e. all round prosperity.

3 Jn. 2, I Thess. 5:23, Jer. 29:11, I Cor. 12:26, 2 Kgs. 5:1, I Chro.

4:9, Mk. 5:28, 34, Gen. 29:31, 30:1, Ph. 4:18-19.

2. ALL ROUND PROSPERITY BEGINS FROM THE SOUL

The prosperity of the soul is the foundation of all other forms of

prosperity i.e. bodily, material and spiritual.

The soul is the non-material part of a human body believed to exist for

ever and it is the life principle of man.

Gen. 2:8-9, Ez. 18:4, Gen. 11:6, Hos. 4:6, Lk. 15:11-12, Prov.

TOPIC: The Fruit Of The Holy Spirit II

MEMORY VERSE: “And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.” – James 3:18 (NKJV)‬

BIBLE PASSAGE: Galatians 5:16-18 (KJV)

16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

INTRODUCTION: The life of the Christian is a constant battle between our sinful nature and our new nature in Christ (Gal. 5:17). Unfortunately, just because we have accepted Christ does not mean we are automatically immune to sinful temptations (Rom. 7:14-25). Sometimes, it may feel like we are trapped in a desire to reach for the sinful thing rather than the godly things. This does not always have to be the case. We can overcome the flesh.

LESSON OUTLINE

CHOOSE TO BEAR THE FRUIT

WORK AT IT

1. CHOOSE TO BEAR THE FRUIT

Now that we are in Christ, we have the power to conquer the sinful desire of the flesh (2Cor. 5:17; Rom. 8:37). The very presence of the Holy Spirit in our hearts means we can now choose godliness over sinfulness (Philip. 1:22). The choice is 100% OURS (Deut. 30:19). We are no longer a slave to our sinful nature (Rom. 6:14, 18). We can choose love over hate, patience over hostile frustration, faithfulness over disloyalty, self-control over lustful desires…etc. This is the beauty of having the Holy Spirit-He gives us the POWER to fight (Philip. 2:13; 4:13). All we must do to tap into that power is to practice obedience to God’s word and his direction (John. 15:4, 10, 14; Col. 3:16; Ps. 1:2-3).

2. WORK AT IT

Some Christians have asked if it is possible to produce all the components to the fruit of the spirit which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This seems like a lot to work on. First, we should remember that God will not give us a load we cannot bear (Matt. 11:29-30). Secondly, the ‘yoke’ of bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit is not just possible, it is mandatory (Luke 1:37; Matt. 5:48). However, since the enemies of our Salvation – the devil and the flesh – will not give up easily on us, we are bound to face the temptation of yielding to occasionally (1Peter 5:8-10) We must continue to work at attaining perfection (Philip. 2:12), surrender totally to the dictates of the Holy spirit and resist the devil (James 4:7). The Apostle Paul charges believers to make no provision for the flesh (Rom. 13:14). Let us keep working at bearing all the components of the fruit of the spirit; it is possible (Philip. 4:13). We must daily, take steps to nurture our relationship with Jesus so that we can grow to look more like him in his manner, attitude and actions (HEB. 12:2; Philip 2:5).

CONCLUSION

Though we may struggle and fail, we will surely conquer the flesh and bear the fruit of the holy spirit. We ought to daily strive for, work for, and yearn for the fruit of the spirit.

Is fruit-bearing a matter of choice? How?

TOPIC: Rendering Help

MEMORY VERSE: “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” – Galatians 6:10 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Acts 9:36-41 (KJV)

36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.

37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.

38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.

39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.

15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.

17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.

19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.

22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:

23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)

26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Rendering help is the act of giving aid or assistance (whether materials or services) to people in need. It can be in the form of Corporate Social Responsibility or personal assistance to the less privileged. More importantly, the Bible encourages us to help members of the household of faith (Gal.6:10).

LESSON OUTLINES:

WHO NEEDS OUR HELP?

HOW SHOULD WE HELP?

1. WHO NEEDS OUR HELP?

The following people should be helped: the committed brethren in need (Gal.6:10), the aged (Lev.19:32), the widows/widowers (Jam.1:2Z), orphans and deserted/helpless (Ps.82:3), the poor (Prov.19:17), the specially challenged (emotional, physical, mental, etc.) – 2 Sam.9:3, 13.

Our help should primarily be to our need family members (which include our parent 1 Timothy 5:8, members of the household of faith (Gal.6:10), then to members of our society whether known or unknown, good or bad. It is necessary to help brethren by connecting them to people or places to get good jobs, pay hospital bills, get scholarships for children’s education, etc.

While this gesture should not be an excuse for some people to be lazy, indulge in begging or feel entitled, believers, should note that everything we have is given to us by God (Ps.68:19; 1Cor.4:7). Therefore, we should be encouraged to give to people in need or render helpful services because these result in blessings (Prov.22:9). Rendering help and expecting nothing back from the recipient is a great way to be Christ-like (Lk.6:34-35).

2. HOW SHOULD WE HELP?

As believers, it is important to know that the help we render should be rooted in love (1 Cor.13:3) even as it allows us to serve God better (2Cor.9:8). Giving, for instance, is an outward sign of our love for others (1Jn.3:17) and we should give expecting God to provide (Lk.6:38). Sometimes, our giving can be a measurement of our faith (Mal.3:10). However, the state of the heart of the giver matters more than the size of the gift (Lk.21:1-4).

While encouraging the believers in Corinth give generously, Paul did not want them to give beyond their means, “reluctantly or under compulsion” (2 Cor.8:12). More importantly, he wanted them to rely on their inner convictions (2Cor.9:7). No one should give under duress but giving, even when you are reluctant can be a learning process especially when you do not have a surplus.

CONCLUSION: God loves it when we give (2 Cor.9:7) and He will always pay back in ways we least imagine.

Mention four (4) sets of people that need our help.

How can believers meet the needs of people?

TURNING ON THE SHOWERS

OF BLESSING 1

Text: Deut. 28:1-14

INTRODUCTION:

Shower means a fall of rain, snow or water etc. showers of

blessing is the release of God's blessings upon the life of man. It

is the abundance of prosperity, miracles and wonders which the

Almighty God pour upon His people.

But there are always some keys to turn on the showers of blessing

before they begin to fall. These keys and how to use them are what

we shall be examining in this series.

May the Lord Himself teach us and release His showers of blessing

upon us in this glorious year of showers of blessings in Jesus Name.

1. WHO GIVES THE SHOWERS OF BLESSING

True and enduring prosperity (blessings) comes from God Almighty,

as it is Him that giveth power to make wealth.

However, some people seek their prosperity from other sources

which does not last and is full of sorrow.

Deut. 28:1-4, 8:18, Prov. 8:18, Isa. 8:18, Hag. 2:8, Ps. 24:1, Ph.

4:19, lll Jn. 2, Prov. 10:22, Ps. 73:3, Ps. 37:1-2, 7, Jer. 12:1-3.

2. WHO RECEIVES THE SHOWERS OF BLESSING

Our God is generous with His blessings. But not all those who desire

to be blessed do receive showers of blessings. There are certain

qualifications for those who must really be blessed.

TOPIC: The Fruit Of The Holy Spirit I

MEMORY VERSE: “(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)” – Ephesians 5:9

BIBLE PASSAGE: Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

INTRODUCTION: One of the reasons Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit is to help us learn how to be more godly (John 16:12-15). The Holy Spirit will convict us of our sin (John 16:8) and guide us in choosing well when faced with temptations, thus producing godly characteristics within us (Ephesians 3:16; John 16:13). This is what the Bible describes as the ‘fruit of the Spirit.

LESSON OUTLINES:

WHY “FRUIT?”

THE OPPOSITE OF BEARING FRUIT

1. WHY “FRUIT?”

The Bible uses a lot of agricultural metaphors because they were easily understood by the highly agricultural culture of the time. The “fruit of the Spirit” refers to the “results” we should see in our lives after receiving the Holy Spirit and working on our hearts over time (Romans 8:9;12:1-2). The Apostle Paul gives us the component of the ‘fruit’ as “……love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control…… Galatians 5:21-22(NKJV)

The ‘fruit’ metaphor helps us see our faith as a tree with branches that may or may not produce fruit, depending on how well we take care of the tree itself. If we give the tree nourishment (God’s word) -1Peter 1:23;2:2, then it will grow bigger. If we clear away weeds and insects (sinful tendencies) -Ephesians 4:22-31; Colossians 3:8-10, then keep the tree healthy. If we consult the professional Gardener (God) -1Chronicles 16:11- then we will ensure we are on the right track.

2. THE OPPOSITE OF BEARING FRUIT

If you are a Christian, and you are not exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit, at best, you will experience stagnation-no growth (James 2:14-26). At worst, the result of “bad fruit” is death (Romans 6:20-23; Proverbs 14:12). Notice that Galatians 5:22 start with the word “But.” The Apostle Paul tells us that the opposite of these spiritual fruit. Let us take a look at the verses just before the fruit list: “Now the work of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred , contentions, jealousies, outburst of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissension, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like: of which I tell you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” -Galatians 5:19-21(NKJV). This is a list of things that someone who does not have the Holy Spirit’s influence would have problems with.

CONCLUSION

Our sinfulness produces rotted, poisoned fruit that reflects our sinful nature and hurt us in the end. On the other hand, the Holy Spirit produces beautiful, nourishing fruit that reflects God’s nature and will ultimately benefit our lives.

TOPIC: Financial Intelligence

MEMORY VERSE: “The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.” – Proverb 14:8 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Luke 19:12-26 (KJV)

12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Simple put, financial intelligence is to be financially wise. It is the knowledge and skills gained from understanding finance and accounting principles in the business world and how money is being used (Proverbs 18:15). To be highly successful, extra efforts, skills, intelligence and God’s leading will be needed. It is not only organizations and business owners that need financial intelligence. It is also needed for personal finance.

LESSON OUTLINES:

WHAT IS PERSONAL FINANCE?

HOW TO BE FINANCIALLY INTELLIGENT

1. WHAT IS PERSONAL FINANCE?

Personal finance is the term that covers planning (Proverbs 21:5; 30:25) and managing personal financial activities such as revenue generation, expenditures, budgeting, savings, investments and other financial related actions (Matthew 25:20). As an individual, your personal finance is a reflection of the level of your financial intelligence, that is, your ability to make smart decisions, plan poverty especially in the aspect of finance and live a good life (Proverbs 10:4). Your net worth and what you are able to do with your money is considered a success (Matthew 25:22) and not necessarily so much cash at your disposal. A personal financial statement (Assets-Liabilities) shows the sold and all debts paid, and the liabilities are greater than the assets, the financial statement indicates a negative net worth. But, if the individual has more assets than liabilities, it is positive net worth.

2. HOW TO BE FINANCIALLY INTELLIGENT

To be financially intelligent, you need to do the following:

Develop a personal success- drive and be intentional about the wellbeing of your finance (1Kings 11:28).

Seek knowledge and be informed (Proverbs 1:5). Invest in yourself (Proverbs 19:20), read (2Timothy 4:13), make researches (Act 17:11), ask questions, and open your ears and eyes to the happenings around you.

Practice what you learn and use the knowledge gained to execute the purpose for which it was acquired (Proverbs 6:6; 10:4).

Keep track of your spending. Identify where you need to make amends and where you need to intensify efforts (Proverbs 16:21a).

Have a proper and detailed records of your income and expenditure (2Chronicles 34:16-18).

Surround yourself with the right people who share the same opinion (Proverbs 13:20; 27:17).

Pray for divine wisdom and direction on what and when to invest your resources (James 1:5; Isaiah 30:21).

CONCLUSION

Financial intelligence is needed in order to stay on top of your financial game because hardly would you find a financially intelligent person who is not successful.

STUDIES IN THE BOOK OF EXODUS

Text: Exodus 17

INTRODUCTION:

In our last study we examined the place of records in the word of

God. We learnt that God would never gloss over details and that

the records help us to see the impact of blessings and curses.

Today, we will begin to climb the steps to greatness as we focus

on the principles of fruitfulness. May the Lord Himself teach us in

Jesus name. Amen.

B. THE PRINCIPLES OF FRUITFULNESS

The first step to greatness, according to the passage before us today,

is fruitfulness. To be fruitful is to reproduce, to produce offspring.

According to the Hebrew origin the word parah means to bring forth,

to cause to be, to grow, to increase.

Everything that lives carries within it the ability to reproduce, hence

God commands fruitfulness. Fruitfulness is a product of the covenant

between God and man. Hence, it is a covenant of blessing.

Fruitfulness requires nourishment. Since a seed only produces after

its kind, to obtain a good fruit, you must sow a good seed. Also, since

fruitfulness comes as a result of God's blessing, one must not do

anything that would attract curses.

Lastly, abiding fruitfulness is a result of absolute obedience to

the Lord. V.7, Gen. 1:11-12, 29, 28, 9:1, 7, 15:2-6, 13:2, Ps. 1:1-3,

Jer. 17:8, Jos. 1:8, Rom. 10:17, Matt. 7:16-20, Isa. 5:1-4, Mal. 1:8-

10, Matt. 21:18-20, Deut. 28:13.

CONCLUSION

Every sower looks forth to a time of fruitfulness.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Exodus 28:40-42 (KJV) (Scroll down for RCCG Sunday School 12 March 2023 HYMN)‬

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

INTRODUCTION: Habit may be defined as a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up. It is also referred to as a “Dress,” Custom “or Dwelling”. It can also be termed as a routine of behavior that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously. Habit can be positive or negative.

LESSON OUTLINE:

DEFINED BY YOUR HABITS

HABIT FORMATION AND CONTROL

1. DEFINED BY YOUR HABITS

Habits are expressed in the way you wear clothes, sleep, eat, etc. Every habit you pick up is something you have developed in the mind, in your conscious and subconscious state (Prov. 23:7). The things that you consistently do on a daily basis determine your body shape, strength, and stamina, as well as many other things.

According to Joshua 1:8, your success is in your habits. Jesus kept to the habit of preaching (Matt. 4:17), praying (Lk. 5:16), reading (Lk.4:16), and fasting (Mk. 9:28-29, Matt. 4:2).

Habits can either make or break your chances of achieving your lifestyle goals as well as increasing quality of life and promoting longevity. Some of the sicknesses and negative things you attribute to the devil are also traceable to your habit. An unhealthy habit could be fear like Job’s, fornication like Samson’s, negative pronouncement like Balaam’s, irresponsibility like Adam’s, personality defects like Moses’, or adultery like David’s. The consistency of your habit turn to your behavior.

2. HABIT FORMATION AND CONTROL

During childhood, habits are picked up from parents, caregivers, friends, teachers, or society. However, forming a habit may include the following stages:

CUE: this is where the mind is consciously analysing your internal and external environment for hints of where rewards are located. Like what information, business, or idea we bring rewards. When you cue on the word of God, ideas for good success drop into your spirit (Joshua1:8).

CRAVING: The que is the first indication that you are close to a reward, it naturally leads to a craving. Cravings are the motivational force that may lead to forming a new habit. What you crave is the reward it delivers (Philippians 3:10)

RESPONSE: This is the actual habit you perform, which can take the form of a thought or an action (Proverbs 23:7).

REWARD: This is where you get addicted to a habit. There are two rewards system here: it’s satisfies your craving and then it teaches you to come back (James 1:14-15)

If a behaviour does not complete these stages, is it will not become a habit. Without the first three steps, a behaviour will not occur. Without all four, a behaviour will not be repeated.

Therefore, to get rid of bad habits, carefully take the following steps:

Identify your triggers

Focuses on why you want to change

Enlist accountability partners

Practice self control

Replace the habit with a good one

Leave yourself reminders

CONCLUSION

Spiritually, what really needs to be done is to yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

TOPIC: Christianity And Wealth

MEMORY VERSE: “Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.” – 1 Chronicles 29:12 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Luke 12:15-21 (KJV)

15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Wealth is the abundance of valuable possessions or money. When we have wealth, we have more than we need to sustain a normal life. The Bible contains several examples of people blessed by God with great wealth; Abram (Gen. 13:2), Jacob (Gen. 30:43), Solomon (1Kings 10:23), Joanna (Luke 8:3) and Joseph of Arimathea (Matt. 27:57) among others. We shall consider what the Bible says about wealth and what should be believers’ disposition towards it.

LESSON OUTLINES

1 BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVES

2 BELIEVERS’ DISPOSITION

1. BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVES

The view of Christians on wealth should be derived from the scriptures. This is because wealth and honour come from God (1Chronicles 29:12). God often blesses his children with wealth when they please him (Deut. 28:1-5). The Bible establishes the facts that wealth and riches shall be in the house of the man that fears God (Ps. 112:1-3); money answers all things (Eccl. 10:19); to enjoy one’s wealth is a gift from God (Eccl. 7:12) and it makes many friends (Prov. 19:4).

However, the Bible also contains several warnings about wealth, among which is the fact that the love of money is the root of all evil (1Tim. 6:10); riches should not be trusted (Prov. 23:5; Luke 12:15); wealth gotten through the wrong means shall diminish (Prov. 13:11); all men will die and leave their wealth to others (Ps. 49:10); those who pursue wealth at the expense of other core values of life will never be satisfied (Eccl. 5:10a).

2. BELIEVERS’ DISPOSITION

Christians should note that wealth has never been an accurate barometer of a person’s standing with God. Some righteous people are poor (Luke 16:20-23) while some wicked people are rich (Ps. 73:3, 12). How then should believers handle wealth? While it is not sin for wealthy believers to enjoy their riches (Eccl. 5:19; 3John 2), they should also see wealth as an investment entrusted to them by God (1Chronicles 29:12). This wealth must be used to enhance good and pursue God’s purposes.

Wealthy believers can initiate charities and scholarship programmes, promote care for orphans, widows and less privileged (1Jn. 3:17-18; James 1:27), and be instrumental in advancing God’s kingdom (Luke 8:3; Rom. 16:3). It is important that believers prove themselves as faithful stewards, by channeling their wealth to godly legacies (1Corinthians 4:2; Matt. 6;19-20).

CONCLUSION

In a bid to be wealthy, believers should always note their first care should be for God’s kingdom and his righteousness (Matt. 6:33).

TOPIC: Dress Discreetly

MEMORY VERSE: “And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty.” – Exodus 28:2 (NKJV)‬

BIBLE PASSAGE: Exodus 28:40-42 (KJV)

40 “For Aaron’s sons you shall make tunics, and you shall make sashes for them. And you shall make hats for them, for glory and beauty.

41 So you shall put them on Aaron your brother and on his sons with him. You shall anoint them, consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister to Me as priests.

42 And you shall make for them linen trousers to cover their nakedness; they shall reach from the waist to the thighs.

INTRODUCTION: In the beginning, the simple purpose of clothing was to cover nakedness and to protect the body from harmful natural conditions, such as cold, animal bites, etc. With time, new parameters emerged against the existence of fashion. However, every believer in Christ, according to 1 Peter 2:9, is regarded as a ‘priest’ and priests are know to have a certain way of dressing just as God instructed Moses to make holy garments for glory and beauty for Aaron and his son (Ex. 28:2).

LESSON OUTLINE

YOUR DRESS DEPICTS YOU.

BIBLICAL STANDARD.

1. YOUR DRESS DEPICTS YOU

The clothes you wear at one point or the other reflect who you are (2Kgs.1:8; 2Sam. 13:18). It shows your mood, exactly how you feel at the moment; joyful or sorrowful (Gen. 37:34; Acts 12:21). It is also a pointer to what to achieve (2Sam. 3:31; Josh. 9:3-6). Your dress sense reveals your personality, character, and, style; if you are an influencer or mediocre. Putting on rumpled clothes is a simple display of slothfulness (Prov. 12:27). A combination of riot colours and inappropriate sizes depict a carefree attitude, and lack of diligence (Prov. 21:25). Dressing intentionally in an immodest manner, to parade sensitive parts of the body, or provoke lust is a sign of mischief (1Cor. 8:13) because clothing sends a message about your morals or lack thereof (Prov. 7:10). Dressing in order to impress can e an albatross (1Sam. 17:38-39). A dressing meant to distract or raise question does not stem from love. Following every fashion trend blindly paints naivety and ignorance (Prov. 12:26).

2. BIBLICAL STANDARD.

God, irrespective of age and time has a standard for everything (Ps. 119:88). After the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, God clothed Adam and eve to cover their nakedness (Gen. 3:21). This simply means believers’ dress must cover their nakedness. Also, any dress worn by a believer must give glory to God (1Cor. 10:31) and beauty to the person (Ex. 28:40). The fashion of this world is transient (1Cor. 7:31) so believers should always seek to honour God and not lust after the adulterated fashion of the world (1Jn. 2:15). Elegance is required in every believer’s dress sense (Ps. 45:13). Believers are expected to dress moderately and modestly all the time (1Tim. 2:9; 1Pet. 3:3-4). We must be decent in our dressing (1Cor. 14:40) knowing that everyone of us shall give an account to God (Rom. 14:12).

CONCLUSION

Always note that you will be addressed the way you are dressed and whatever you wear reflects the real you. Remember we are all expected to bring praise and Glory to God in whatever we do.

QUESTIONS

Why would a person be addressed the way he/she dresses?

Mention the three primary purposes of dressing.

TOPIC: Break The Yoke Of Poverty

MEMORY VERSE: “All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.” – Proverbs 19:7 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Proverbs 6:9-11 (KJV)

9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Generally, poverty can be described as a state of being extremely poor. Poverty can take different forms: mental, spiritual, material or financial. In the context of material/financial possessions, poverty is said to exist when people lack the means to satisfy their basic needs. Scriptures clearly state that even brethren of the poor hate him (Proverbs 19:7) and that poverty can destroy the poor (Proverbs 10:15). What then causes poverty and how can a believer break free from it?

LESSON OUTLINES

CAUSES OF POVERTY

BREAKING FREE FROM POVERTY

1. CAUSES OF POVERTY

While poverty can be in categories of degrees, several factors can be responsible for it:

Personal attitude which includes laziness/idleness (Proverbs 10:4;19:15); poor work ethics (Proverbs 14:23; 2Thessalonians 3:10); lack of self discipline (Proverbs 12:27); stubbornness (Proverbs 13:18); drunkenness and gluttony (Proverbs 23:21); worldliness and frivolous persuits (Proverbs 21:17;28:19); limitation mentality (Proverbs 23:7a) etc.

Natural disasters (famine, floods, etc.)- Genesis 12:10, health challenges (Mark 5:25-26), fire outbreaks (Job 1:16), death of a benefactor (2Samuel 4:4).

Oppression of others. Examples of oppression that can cause poverty include delayed wages (Leviticus 19:13; 1Timothy 5:18), exorbitant interest rates on loans (Exodus 22:25).

Spiritual causes of poverty include the repercussion of sin (Deuteronomy 28:15-21) and wrong spiritual concepts as some believers equate poverty to holiness.

2. BREAKING FREE FROM POVERTY

You need to discover your purpose of living and diligently pursue it (Proverbs 22:29). Gather sufficient information on how to improve yourself in your chosen career, vocation or trade (Proverbs 18:15; 24:4). Be intentional about creating multiple streams of income (Ecclesiastes 11:2). Find a problem around you that you can solve that will earn you good money. Acquire additional skills: re-skill and up skill (Proverbs 9:9). Believe in yourself and have the ‘I can’ attitude (Phil 4:13).

Essentially, breaking free from poverty requires giving (Proverbs 11:24): pay your tithes and offerings (Malachi 3:10-12), first fruit (Proverbs 3:9-10), and give to those that are less privileged. Pray and study the word of God to know his perfect will for you in all your life’s endeavours (Psalm 37:23). Stop living on debts, borrow only to invest (Proverbs 22:7).

CONCLUSION

Poverty is not pre-destined, therefore, change your mindset towards material wealth knowing that God gives the ‘power’ to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18).

TOPIC: SAYING NO

MEMORY VERSE: “But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil”. Matthew 5:37

BIBLE TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 6:18-20

Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

LESSON INTRODUCTION:

Saying no is an act of standing your grounds and not letting people take advantage of you. Bible makes us to understand that we should let our yes be yes and no be no. Matthew 5:37. Sometimes you end up disappointing people because you were not able to say no when you should have. So it is important to learn not to be A yes person all the time. Saying no does not make you less than you are. Sometimes, when we stand our position, it is a plus to our personality and characters.

LESSON OUTLINES:

LESSON OUTLINES ONE: PHOBIA OF SAYING NO

The fear of saying no also stems from the urge to:

Avoid alcohol

Also because we do not want to be confrontational

Because we also do not want to hurt the other person’s feelings

Because we do not want to loose relevance and association

LESSON OUTLINE TWO: HOW TO SAY NO WITHOUT HURTING EITHER OURSELVES OR THE OTHER PARTY

Appreciate them but let them know that you will not be able to honour their request.

Let them know who you are and the choices you have made in your other commitments and would not be able to compromise your position.

Always check with your LORD in prayer before ever saying yes to any request.

Instead of saying yes, tell the other party to give you time to think about it and you give an answer.

LESSON OUTLINE THREE: EXAMPLES OF THOSE THAT REFUSED TO SAY NO

Remember King Jehoshaphat who nearly lost his life when he refused to say no to demonic offer, 1 Kings 22:4-32.

Remember Balaam that received gain of deception for not saying no, Numbers 22.

Gehazi refused to say no to flesh prompting to sin and later got Leprosy, 2 Kings 5:20-27

Esau refused to say no to unquenchable hunger, he lost his birthright, Genesis 25:32

Absalom refused to say no to his ungodly ambition, he died shamefully, 2 Samuel 15:3-6

ACTIVITY:

Assess your life and see what you need to say no to.

SUMMARY:

Unquenchable thirst for mundane things is deadly.

CONCLUSION:

It iste do not make ourselves yes men and women and at the end we are then seen and regarded as unreliable people. It is important to always say no to sin and anything that looks like sin, 1 Thessalonians 5:22, James 4:7.

TOPIC: INTERACTIVE SESSION AND REVIEW

TOPIC: THE MYSTERY OF FAITH

MEMORY VERSE: “Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience“. Timothy 3:9(NKJV).

BIBLE PASSAGE: HEBREWS 11:3-11

INTRODUCTION: The ultimate Goal of the Christian life is to please God. Pleasing God Is accomplished by Faith (Heb. 11:6). Faith is the foundation of the Christian life and the principle that bring us to Jesus Christ. An understanding of what faith is will help us grow in our walk with the Lord.

LESSON OUTLINES

A DESCRIPTION OF FAITH

STAGES OF FAITH

1 A DESCRIPTION OF FAITH

Faith can be described as:

i. The currency of believers

(Mark. 9:23). When God created the Heavens and the Earth in Gen. 1:1, as well as everything we see (the stars, moon, and light), we understand by faith (Heb. 11:3).

ii. Faith works where we cannot see (Heb. 11:1): It is the substance of things hoped for.

iii. Faith is predicting your future by speaking and confessing it (Mark 11:24).

iv. Faith is the act of declaring and decreeing (Mark 11:23; Job 22:28): It is the vehicle that moves God (Matt. 8:9-10; 15:25-28).

v. The pillar for salvation (Eph. 2:8; Rom. 10:9-10): pursuing a Christ-like life is a demonstration of faith (Heb. 10:38-39).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The teacher should ask students to say what faith means to them.

2 STAGES OF FAITH

Faith can be explained in three stages:

A. The faith that secures our salvation and make us followers of Jesus.

i. This is the fundamental theology and the core of what we believe as Christians (Rom. 10:4; Jh. 14:6; Eph. 1:13).

ii. It is what makes us believers (Jh. 1:12).

iii. This faith is what separates Christianity from other religions (1Jh. 4:1-3).

B. The faith that is an act, art and the science of believing.

i. It is the practical aspect of our profession as Christians.

ii. It makes us hold on the word or promise of God against all odds (Rom. 4:18-21).

C. The lifestyle of faith.

i. This is when faith has become our lifestyle, we live it.

ii. At this stage, it is impossible not to believe in God. We do not stagger at what we see or experience (Dan. 3:16-18; Acts 21:11-13).

iii. It is necessary for the manifestation of signs and diverse miracles

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Student should say what stage of faith they think they are in.

CONCLUSION: Faith is both a gift and fruit of the Holy Spirit (1Cor. 12:9; Gal. 5:22). It is the fuel that keeps is going as believers
