TOPIC: Divine Leading And Guidance (Pt 2)

MEMORY VERSE: “And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.” – 2 Samuel 2:1 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Habakkuk 2:1-2 (KJV)

1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: The Bible is full of records of believers who yielded to the leading and guidance of God. While it may seem difficult for some people in our contemporary world to allow God in their pursuit, Christians that meet the requirements will walk in the path of God.

LESSON OUTLINES

BIBLICAL INSTANCES OF DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

REQUIREMENTS FOR DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

1. BIBLICAL INSTANCES OF DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

In Genesis 12:1-4, God ordered Abram out of his country to a promised land and he obeyed. Numbers 9:17-23 narrates how the Israelites obeyed the instruction of God to travel with the cloud. God instructed Jacob to return to his fatherland (Genesis 31:3) just as He told Elijah in 1 Kings 18:1 to show himself to a Ahab as He would open the heavens for the rain to fall. According to 2 Samuel 5:19, David enquired from God on whether to go against the Philistines or not. Matthew 2:9-12 tells that God led and guided the wise men to the place of birth of Jesus Christ. In Acts 9:10-11, the Lord gave and guided Ananias to a specific address of Saul of Tarsus. Surprisingly, the Holy Spirit can forbid you to perform a task, though, it may seem like it would please God (Acts 16:6).

2. REQUIREMENTS FOR DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

Delights in the Lord Psalm 37:4-5; 1Corinthians 2:9).

Passion for God’s will (Luke 22:42). The will of God does not leave you miserable or regretful but rather it takes you to the expected end (Jeremiah 29:11)

The willingness to be led (Romans 8:14; Psalm 23:1-2).

The attitude of meekness (Psalm 25 9) : meekness equals being teachable.

The attitude of enquiry (Jeremiah 6:16; Matthew 7:7)

The attitude of hearing and listening – activate the listening mode (Psalm 85:8; Habakkuk 2:1-2).

The attitude of patience (Isaiah 28:16). Do not force yourself to hear what God is not saying

Soak in and meditate on the word of God (Psalm 119:105).

Pay attention to godly leaders over you (1Samuel 3:9).

Obey previous instructions (Mark 4:24b). If you have not harkened to previous instructions, you may not hear the next move of God.

CONCLUSION

If God is the One leading you, you can never miss the mark. Ask for the grace to understand the mind of God and be guided in the right direction. If you think you have gone far in the wrong direction and refuse to turn back, you will only end in the wrong destination.

TOPIC — Leadership: Means And Roles

MEMORY VERSE: “Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you,” – Proverbs 2:11 (NKJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 41:38-41 (KJV)

38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

INTRODUCTION: Having discovered what leadership is and certain theories of leadership with biblical instances, we need to find out how to become leaders as Christians. Equally, based on the situational theories of leadership, the role of team leaders should evolve as team develop through different stages. Effective leaders are aware of the stages and carry out the necessary actions required at each stage that will enable the team to be successful.

LESSON OUTLINE

MEANS OF BECOMING LEADER

THE ROLE OF LEADERS

1. MEANS OF BECOMING LEADER

There are various means of attaining leadership positions. These means includes:

Qualification: some people become leaders because they achieve the necessary certification or credentials for a position, e.g Vice-chancellor, Judges, etc. (Daniel 1:17-20).

Merit: Some people become leaders primarily through faithful and enthusiastic participation as well as competent performance over time. These leaders may be considered to have “paid their dues” (1Samuel 17:31-37). E.g. students Union leaders.

Capturing: some people become leaders by campaigning for a position being political, or otherwise maneuvering themselves into a position. Leaders in this category may also take possession or seize the position through positive or negative means. E.g. politicians, military dictators, etc. (2 Samuel 15:6).

Identification: Some people become leaders because they possess personal or professional qualities that are recognised as beneficial and undeniable and are appropriate for meeting the team’s need at a particular time (Genesis 41:38-41). E.g. project manager of a business course representatives, etc.

Default: Some people become leaders simply because other team members are unwilling or unable to accept the position of responsibility. An example is someone in a small discussion group to lead the discussion (1 Samuel 17:10-11, 32).

Heritage: some people become leaders simply because they come from a privilege family or ruling class. E.g. children of great business owners, royal descendants, etc. (1Chronicles 19:1)

The categories also overlap, resulting in many ways that someone can attain a leadership position. Leaders can perform as I levels and make valuable contributions to their teams, regardless of how they were selected or designated as a leaders.

2. THE ROLE OF LEADERS

Certain situations that effective leaders need to be aware of and the actions they can take to deal with them at the various stages of team development are briefly outlined below:

Forming: Leaders play a dominant role at this stage. Leader should provide the team with clear direction and establish easily identifiable and understandable objective/outcomes Exodus 4:29-31).

Storming: Leaders needs to help team members overcome feelings of discomfort and be aware of any members who may feel overwhelmed (Ephesians 4:31-32). Leaders work to resolve conflicts and build a good relationship between team members. Leaders needs to remain positive and firm in the face of challenges to their leadership or to the team’s goal (Numbers 16:1-3)

Norming: Team members come to respect the leader’s authority and some members demonstrate leadership in specific areas. Team leaders can take a step back from the team at this stage as individual members take greater responsibility (Exodus 18:14-17). This is also when a team hierarchy was established.

Performing: The leaders are able to delegate much of the work and can concentrate on developing the skills and abilities of individual team members (Exodus 18:21). Leaders should organise “get together/fun time” as much as possible with a view to celebrate success once the team has achieved high performance. Being a part of the team at this stage feels easy and comfortable compared to the early stages.

Adjourning: Team may organize a celebratory event at the end of a project. Team members will likely leave with fond memories of their experience.

CONCLUSION: You should influence people around you positively.

QUESTIONS:

Mention five of the various means of attaining leadership position.

What are the five actions that characterize the role of a leader?

KNOWING GOD’S WILL (2)

Text: Jonah 1:1-3

INTRODUCTION:

In our last study, we learnt about how to hear from God and what

to do to elicit our hearing from Him.

Today, we will learn how to differentiate between God's voice and

that of the adversary; and we will advance some reasons why

people find it difficult to obey God's voice even when they are

sure it was God's. May the Lord teach us today in Jesus name,

Amen.

A. HOW DO I DIFFERENTIATE GOD'S VOICE FROM THAT OF THE

DEVIL?

It is essential to know whether you are hearing God or a particular

message is from the devil with the intention of misleading you or

distracting your attention. Whenever God sends us a message or

speaks to us, such a message will agree with the Holy Scripture and

you will have peace within you. In addition, God could use other

means of revelation to confirm or warn you.

Jonah 1:1, 3:1, Matt. 4:1-11, ll Tim. 3:16-17, Ps. 119:11, I Cor.

10:11, Rom. 15:4, 8:14, I Jn. 5:3, Eze. 14:3-5.

B. WHY DO WE DISOBEY THE VOICE OF GOD?

Even when people are really sure that God is the one speaking to

them, they could still resist His will and refuse to carry out His

injunctions. Sometimes it may be because of fear or non-agreement

with their expectation.

Jonah 1:3, Num. 22:9-13, 15-20, 31-35, Acts 10:9-16, I Sam. 15:1-

3, 9, 13-15, 22.

CONCLUSION:

To obey is better than sacrifice.

TOPIC — Leadership: Meaning And Theories

MEMORY VERSE: “So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.” – Psalm 78:72 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Matthew 20:25-28 (KJV)

25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

INTRODUCTION: Everything rises and falls with leadership. The more skillful and effective the leadership, the better the group or organisation runs, and the more the potential for growth increases. While some argue that leaders are born, the making of a true leader is not a ‘sprint’ but a ‘marathon’. It is therefore expedient to carefully and painstakingly learn about leadership and be skilled in the art.

LESSON OUTLINE

LEADERSHIP DESCRIBED

LEADERSHIP THEORIES

1. LEADERSHIP DESCRIBED

Many scholars have attempted to define or describe the term ‘leadership’. For instance, leadership is said to be a relationship between those who aspire to lead and those who choose to follow (John 21:3). Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal (Mark 3:14). Leadership is any behaviour that influences the actions and attitude of others to achieve certain results (Genesis 7:5-7).

Societal values determine whether the leadership of a an individual is positive or negative (Isaiah 9:16), based on the goals and results being pursued and on the means used to influence others. Christian leaders leadership is an interpersonal behaviour (John 10:27;12:26). It is a relationship between a ‘mature’ Christian (who is willing to take responsibility) and a group of believers in Christ (who are willing to be responsible followers) with the aim of influencing them to achieve the common goal of doing God’s will in this world and making it to Heaven (1Corinthians 11:1;Luke 9:57).

A leader is someone who can see how things can be improved and Who rallies people to move towards that better vision. Leaders can work towards making their vision a reality while putting people first. Just being able to motivate people is not enough – leaders needs to be empathetic and connect with people to be successful. Leaders do not have to come from the same background or follow the same part. Future leaders will actually be more diverse, which brings a variety of perspectives.

2. LEADERSHIP THEORIES

Various leadership theories have emerged over the year and in attempt to explain the complexities of leadership. The following theories offer a diverse and representative view of leadership:

“Great leader” theories: in great leader theories assume that great leaders are born not made (Jeremiah 1:5; Judges 13:5).

Traits theory: similar in some ways to “great leader” theories, trait theories assume that people inherit certain behaviours, quality, and traits that make them suited for leadership (2Kings 14:1-3).

Situational theories: situational theories proposed that leaders will demonstrate a particular style of leadership depending on the given situation (1Corinthians 9:19-20)

Behavioral (functional) theories: behavioral theories of leadership are based on the belief that leaders are made, not born (the opposite of the “great leaders” theories) *Daniel 1:8, 20-21;6:1-3

Transactional theories: transactional theories focus on the principle that followers are motivated by a system of risk and reward. If individuals or teams achieved their identify goal(s), they will be rewarded and if they do not succeed, they will be punished (Matthew 25:14-30).

Transformational theories: transformational theories are based on the idea that leaders motivate their followers. This will inspire team members of followers to perform for the good of the team (John 14:12-14).

CONCLUSION

Every man has a trait of leadership and them. Discover yours with the help of the Holy Spirit and make up your mind to be a leader after God’s heart.

TOPIC: Divine Leading And Guidance (Pt 1)

MEMORY VERSE: “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” – Psalm 32:8 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Psalm 37:3-7 (KJV)

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Divine leading is about being directed by God. Being led or guided by God is a necessary key for Christians. It is the only way to fulfill God’s will and every of our decision-making processes (2Kings 3:11). Therefore, we need to learn the avenues through which God leads and guides His people. Moreover, in this dispensation, the leading and guidance of the holy spirit are both inevitable and indispensable.

AVENUE FOR DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

RECOGNISING DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

1. AVENUE FOR DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

It is important to note that God, in his sovereignty, can adopt any or several means to lead and guide those who put their trust in him. Here are some of them:

Through the word of God (1Samuel 3:21; Hebrews 1:1-2).

Through a witness of the spirit (Romans 8:14; 16). The witness of the spirits can also come in form of god’s peace the passes all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7).

Through the voice of the spirit. This is beyond just a witness; it is hearing. This hearing can be inward (which means no one else, around you, hear it). The Bible calls it is ‘still small voice’- like the sound of a gentle whisper (1Kings 19:12). Sometimes the voice comes in the midst of a godly thought (Acts 10:19) the voice of the spirit can also be outward, in which case you will look around as if you heard or somebody else heard what you are hearing (1Sam. 3:3-5; Acts 9:3-5)

Though revelations – dreams, visions, trance (Joel 2:28). Dreams can come from your thoughts (Eccl. 5:3) or the devil – scary and tormenting (nightmares) or from God – insightful, instructional, or revelational (Job 33:14; 17). Dreams happen when you are fully asleep (day or night). Vision can come when you are awake and see something like a still or motion picture (day or night) – Daniel 2:19. Trance is like the average between a dream and a vision (you are half awake, half asleep) when the physical senses seem to be suspended (Acts 10:10-11).

Through ordain situation or circumstances (Proverbs 24:30-34; Jeremiah 18:1-6). God can take you by all through a happening to give you a clear direction for Life.

Through prophetic utterances and confirmations (Hosea 12:10). However, believers are cautioned against living at the mercy of prophecy (1 John 4:1)

Through diverse means as deemed fit by God (Hosea 12:10)

2. RECOGNISING DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

The Holy Spirit takes on the role of a guide and counselor, leading us in the way we should go and revealing God’s truths (Luke 12:12). One of the most important ways to recognize the Holy Spirit guidance is to be familiar with God’s word. The Bible is the ultimate source of wisdom about how we should live (2Timothy 3:16), and believers are to search the scriptures (John 5:39), meditate on them, and commit them to memory (Psalm 1:2). The word is the “sword of the spirit” (Ephesians 6:17), and the spirit will use it to speak to us (John 16:12-14) to review God’s will for our lives. He will also bring specific scriptures to mind at times when we need them the most (John 14:26).

Therefore, we must always test our inclinations against the scriptures. This is because the Holy Spirit will never push us to do anything contrary to God’s word (1Corinthians 14:33). If it is conflicts with the Bible then it is not from the Holy Spirit and should be ignored. It is also necessary for us to be in continual prayer with the father (1Thessalonians 5:17) not only does this keep our hearts and minds open to the Holy Spirit’s leading but it’s also allows the spirit to speak on our behalf (Romans 8:26-27).

CONCLUSION

If you are not lead and guided by God, you will wonder and get lost in the wilderness of life. Let God lead you.

TOPIC: The Zealous Phinehas

MEMORY VERSE: “Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My wrath from the children of Israel, because he was zealous with My zeal among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in My zeal.” – Numbers 25:11 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Numbers 25:6-13 (KJV)

6 And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

7 And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

8 And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

9 And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

TOPIC: She Cries At The Gate

OPENING PRAYER: Father, please grant me wisdom to go through

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: Leaders should remind members why they need to say no when necessary and required.

MEMORY VERSE: “1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? 2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. 3 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.” – Proverbs 8:1-3 (KJV)

BIBLE TEXT: Proverbs 1:20-33 (KJV)

20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord:

30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: The Bible passages for today personified Wisdom; Jesus Christ is the power and the wisdom of God. It says that she cries out to you and I in the streets, in the market and at the entrance of the city gates she speaks. The believers and the unbelievers need the wisdom to live in this world in order to succeed in life. Proverbs 4:7 says “Wisdom is a Principal thing; therefore, get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding”.

LEADER’S DIARY.

A. LESSON AIM: To have understanding of benefits that God’s wisdom entails.

B. TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to:

i. understand what wisdom is.

ii. see benefits that Godly wisdom can bring.

C. TEXT REVIEW: PROVERBS 1:20-33

i. Wisdom cries to stop people wallowing in ignorance.

ii. Refusal to hearken to God’s wisdom and counsel results into disaster.

iii. Being complacent to divine counsel brings untamed destruction.

D. TEACHING METHOD: The leader should use lecture method but could still use a bit of question and answer method too.

E. TIME MANAGEMENT: Share the teaching time, use suggested time schedule.

LESSON OUTLINES ONE: WISDOM CRIES:

Wisdom is the ability to judge correctly and to follow the best course of action, based on knowledge and understanding.

The wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight according to 1 Corinthians 3:19 and it cannot help us to achieve God’s purpose for our lives.

The first principal of biblical wisdom is that man who humbles himself before God in reverence and worship, obedient to His commands. Proverbs 1:7

When we seek for wisdom, we are seeking to know the mind of God.

LESSON OUTLINE TWO: BENEFITS OF GODLY WISDOM

We have security

We will enjoy peace like a river

We will be blessed and be a blessing to others

We will see beyond others

Our problems are solved by wisdom

LESSON OUTLINE THREE: WHEN WE DO NOT LISTEN TO HER CRIES, PROVERBS 1:26-28

Those who refused to listen to wisdom, a time will come that wisdom will also ignore them and they are fools. Whoever lacks wisdom, lacks God’s direction and can never attain something tangible in life. Cannot stand in the sight of God, Psalms 5:5. You will eat the fruits of your own way. Wisdom mocks you when her time is passed.

ACTIVITY: Let members give examples of how and when to apply godly wisdom.

SUMMARY: Ignoring wisdom when necessary brings future mockery.

CONCLUSION: You must listen to Wisdom’s Cry to and dwell securely in this life and next. You can be at ease now and in eternity. Hear Christ and obey His voice!

TOPIC: The Significance Of Voices

MEMORY VERSE: “There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.” – 1 Corinthians 14:10 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Psalm 29:3-9 (KJV)

3 The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the Lord is upon many waters.

4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

5 The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars; yea, the Lord breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.

6 He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.

7 The voice of the Lord divideth the flames of fire.

8 The voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness; the Lord shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.

9 The voice of the Lord maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.

LESSON OUTLINE

THE IMPACTS OF VOICES

THE VALUE OF LISTENING TO GOD

1. THE IMPACTS OF VOICES

The voice you listen to affects your outcome. For instance,

Eve listened to the serpent (Genesis 3:1-7),

Samson listened to Delilah (Judges 16:6,17)

Amnon listened to Jonadab (2 Samuel 13:4-14)

Saul of tarsus listened to Jesus Christ (Acts 9:1-6). Therefore, who you give your ears to effects:

Your mindset and invariably your thoughts pattern (Proverbs 23:7).

Your choices and decision-making (1Kings 12:6-14).

Your emotion, feelings and psychological well-being (Numbers 13:32-33, 14:1-4).

Your lifestyle and the steps you take (John 4:25-29).

Your life’s outcome and fulfillment of destiny (Acts 26:13-16; Jeremiah 1:4-5).

2. THE VALUE OF LISTENING TO GOD

A fulfilling life and destiny. The most important choices you will have to make in life are choices that will require God to assist you to have a fulfilled life. For example, the choice of who to marry (Proverbs 18:22), the business/career to pursue (Jeremiah 1:5), the place to live or settle (Genesis 26:1-3), etc. These are decisions that will require God’s assistant as you put your trust in Him (Psalm 37:4; Proverbs 3:5-6).

The fulfillment of life’s purpose and vision. This is the reason for living as a whole. It seemed God was telling Jeremiah ‘I planned for you, I prepare for you, and organised what you should do with your life before you came’ (Jeremiah 1:5) in Acts 26:12-19′ Paul narrates the details of his own assignment in life.

Supernatural supply or divine provision. As long as God is the one leading, you do not need to struggle for pasture (Psalm 23:1-2). God knows where your supply is, and He will direct you to the right place (1Kings 17:2-6; Matthew 17:27; Luke 5:4-7)

Supernatural power and authority. The voice of God comes with power (Psalms 29:4). When God speaks to you, power rushes into you (Ezekiel 37:1-10). There is a boldness that is backed up by the voice of the Lord (Exodus 3:1-10). You can face the future without fear (Genesis 12:1-4).

Victory over enemy’s forces including afflictions, battles, or conspiracies (Isaiah 30:31; 1Samuel 30:1-8, 18-19; 2Samuel 5:17-21). Many people are victims of battles, only because they do not know what God is saying and what they ought to do.

Escape from danger and disaster (Proverbs 22:3; 1Samuel 23:7-13)

The importation of divine wisdom. When God guides, you cannot be foolish (Proverbs 1:5). If you are hearing from God, your wisdom is not contestable (Luke 21:15). You need divine wisdom to handle the affairs of Life successfully (Ecclesiastes 10:10)

Existence in peace and tranquility. One of the top secret of Peace is the voice of God (Psalm 85:8). In Psalm 23:2 ‘….beside still waters’. talks about peace, not ‘troubled Waters’ When you are disconnected from what God is saying you become troubled and worried about everything.

CONCLUSION

The voice you listen to determines your direction and destination. To end well, listen to the voice of God.

House Fellowship Leader Manual 4 December 2022: Saying No

TOPIC: Saying No

OPENING PRAYER: Father, please me to trust You always and forgive others.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: Leader should remind members what they learnt in previous lesson. And also find out if previous lesson’s assignment was carried out.

MEMORY VERSE: “But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.” – Matthew 5:37

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (KJV)

18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Saying no is an act of standing your grounds and not letting people take advantage of you. Bible makes us to understand that we should let our yes be yes and no be no. Matthew 5:37. Sometimes you end up disappointing people because you were not able to say no when you should have. So it is important to learn not to be A yes person all the time. Saying no does not make you less than you are. Sometimes, when we stand our position, it is a plus to our personality and characters.

LESSON AIM: To have the understanding that saying no to ungodly prompting is divine and it safeguards one from destruction.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to:

i. See some benefits of saying no to what God tested.

ii. See examples of those who refused to say no and the repercussions.

TEXT REVIEW: 1 CORINTHIANS 6:18-20

i. Fleeing appearances of evil is avenue to rid future groaning.

ii. You need to know that your body is where God resides.

iii. Every saved soul was bought with the price that is called priceless gift.

LESSON OUTLINES ONE: PHOBIA OF SAYING NO

The fear of saying no also stems from the urge to:

Avoid alcohol

Also because we do not want to be confrontational

Because we also do not want to hurt the other person’s feelings

Because we do not want to loose relevance and association

LESSON OUTLINE TWO: HOW TO SAY NO WITHOUT HURTING EITHER OURSELVES OR THE OTHER PARTY

Appreciate them but let them know that you will not be able to honour their request.

Let them know who you are and the choices you have made in your other commitments and would not be able to compromise your position.

Always check with your LORD in prayer before ever saying yes to any request.

Instead of saying yes, tell the other party to give you time to think about it and you give an answer.

LESSON OUTLINE THREE: EXAMPLES OF THOSE THAT REFUSED TO SAY NO

Remember King Jehoshaphat who nearly lost his life when he refused to say no to demonic offer, 1 Kings 22:4-32.

Remember Balaam that received gain of deception for not saying no, Numbers 22.

Gehazi refused to say no to flesh prompting to sin and later got Leprosy, 2 Kings 5:20-27

Esau refused to say no to unquenchable hunger, he lost his birthright, Genesis 25:32

Absalom refused to say no to his ungodly ambition, he died shamefully, 2 Samuel 15:3-6

ASSIGNMENT: Assess your life and see what you need to say no to.

SUMMARY: Unquenchable thirst for mundane things is deadly.

CONCLUSION: It is very important that we do not make ourselves yes men and women and at the end we are then seen and regarded as unreliable people. It is important to always say no to sin and anything that looks like sin, 1 Thessalonians 5:22, James 4:7.

PRAYER POINTS:

Father, grant me the grace to say no to the things that do not please You.

Father, help me to always seek Your consent before saying yes to any request made to me.

Father, let me always put You first in all I do.

Father, bless MPM and make us the apple of Your eyes.

TOPIC: The Mystery Of Faith

MEMORY VERSE: “Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.” – 1 Timothy 3:9 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Hebrews 11:3-11 (KJV)

3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

INTRODUCTION: The ultimate Goal of the Christian life is to please God. Pleasing God Is accomplished by Faith (Heb. 11:6). Faith is the foundation of the Christian life and the principle that bring us to Jesus Christ. An understanding of what faith is will help us grow in our walk with the Lord.

LESSON OUTLINES

A DESCRIPTION OF FAITH

STAGES OF FAITH

1. A DESCRIPTION OF FAITH

Faith is a currency of believers (Mark. 9:23): when God created the Heavens and the Earth in Gen. 1:1, as well as everything we see (the stars, moon, and light), we understand by faith (Heb. 11:3). Faith works where we cannot see (Heb. 11:1): It is the substance of things hoped for. Faith is predicting your future by speaking and confessing it (Mark 11:24). Faith is the act of declaring and decreeing (Mark 11:23; Job 22:28): It is the vehicle that moves God (Matt. 8:9-10; 15:25-28). Faith is the pillar for salvation (Eph. 2:8; Rom. 10:9-10): pursuing a Christ-like life is a demonstration of faith (Heb. 10:38-39).

2. STAGES OF FAITH

The faith that secures our salvation and make us followers of Jesus. This is the fundamental theology and the core of what we believe as Christians (Rom. 10:4; John 14:6; Eph. 1:13). It is what makes us believers (John 1:12). It is what separates Christianity from other religions (1 John 4:1-3).

The faith that is an act, art and the science of believing. It is the practical aspect of our profession as Christians that makes us hold on the word or promise of God against all odds (Rom. 4:18-21).

The lifestyle of faith. This is when faith has become our lifestyle, we live it. At this stage, it is impossible not to believe in God. We do not stagger at what we see or experience (Dan. 3:16-18; Acts 21:11-13).

CONCLUSION: Faith is both a gift and fruit of the Holy Spirit (1Cor. 12:9; Gal. 5:22). It is the fuel that keeps is going as believers.

Give four descriptions of faith.

Mention the three stages of faith.

 STUDIES IN JONAH

Text: Jonah 1:1-2

INTRODUCTION

0n our last study in the Book of Jonah, we discovered God's desire

for the nations of the world. God wants the nations saved and He

would do anything to reach them. Today we will look at the

process of taking a city and why we must act now. May the Lord

teach us Himself in Jesus name.

A. THE PROCESS OF TAKING A CITY

God gave us an insight into how we can take over a city for Him

through the story of Noah and Nineveh. He told Jonah to arise and go

and cry. The God of nations expects us to be on our feet, move into

action, shake away every spirit of slumber; to encourage oneself and

do the right thing. The injunction of the Master to the apostles is to go

into all nations and preach the gospel.

TOPIC: The Mystery Of Iniquity

MEMORY VERSE: “For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.” – 2 Thessalonians 2:7 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12 (KJV)

1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

INTRODUCTION: Mystery simply means something that baffles understanding and cannot be explained. It takes its root from the Latin word ‘Mysterium’ and from the ancient Greek word ‘Musterion’ meaning a secret or secret rite. Iniquity from its root word ‘anomia’ (in Greek) means illegality, i.e. violation of law or wickedness: transgression of the law, unrighteousness, or lawlessness. Therefore, the mystery of iniquity is a system of lawlessness for which believers are warned and should watch out for.

LESSON OUTLINE

THE MYSTERY OF INIQUITY EXPLAINED

BELIEVERS MUST BE ON THE WATCH

1. THE MYSTERY OF INIQUITY EXPLAINED

The mystery of iniquity is the working of lawlessness in the world, leading to a worldwide rebellion against God (Matt.24:12; 2Tim.3:1-4). It is all about controlling people, systems, finance, etc. (Gen.11:4). It is an interwoven series of complex systems that have slipped into politics, entertainment, sports, education, religion, media, etc. (Rom.1:21-22). It is also revealed through the spirit of seduction and doctrines of the devils (2Tim. 3:13; 1Tim. 4:1). It showcases sinful behaviour and diabolic practices in human beings (Acts 8:22-23; Matt. 23:28).

Iniquity relates more to the inner character (Mk.7:21-23) and points to an intentional desire to twist God’s holy standard (Jude 4). It drives human beings to twist God’s word (Tit 1:11). It will one day culminate in the appearance of the Antichrist, whose spirit is already at work in the world but is being restrained for now so that the world is not as evil as it could be (2Thess. 2:7-8; 1 John.4:3).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The class should mention any sector where the mystery of iniquity is already at work and how?

2. BELIEVERS MUST BE ON THE WATCH

With the spirit of lawlessness everywhere in the world, believers must:

Search, rend and guard their hearts diligently and always (Joel 2:13; Prov.4:23).

Confess any known sin (1Jn.1:9) and repent to receive forgiveness from the Lord (Acts 3:19).

Not conform to this world system (Rom.12:2) and be diligent to keep God’s commandment (Deut.11:22).

Watch and pray (Matt. 26:41) and ask for a new heart (Ps.51:10).

Put on the new man (Col.3:10) and be constantly renewed by the Holy Ghost (Tit.3:5).

Depart from iniquity (2Tim. 2:19) and remove the old yeast of sin (1Cor.5:7).

Purge themselves (2Tim.2:21) and let their garments be spotless (Eccl.9:8).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: The class should mention how they resisted a particular temptation recently.

CONCLUSION: Believers must know that the spirit of lawlessness is already operating in the world presently and they must ensure that they keep the profession of their faith to the end.

QUESTIONS:

What is the mystery of iniquity?

Mention four things believers can do to be on the watch.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention five aspects of the world system capable of luring you into being a perpetual sinner e.g. Clubbing etc. (2×5=10 marks).

House Fellowship Leader November 2022,

TOPIC: Family Altar

OPENING PRAYER: Father, please build all homes to fit Your divine purposes.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: Leader should remind members that there is provision of the manifestation of the Holy Spirit to everyone who desires the wholesome experience.

MEMORY VERSE: “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.” – Genesis 18:19

BIBLE TEXT: 2 Timothy 1:5 (KJV)

5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

TOPIC: Listening To God

MEMORY VERSE: “And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.” – 1 Samuel 3:10 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Samuel 3:1-10 (KJV)

1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;

3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;

4 That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

6 And the Lord called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.

8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child.

9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

10 And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

INTRODUCTION: We live in a world of voices (1Corinthians 14:10): demonic voices, the voice of friends, voice of enemies, the voice of those who love us, the voice of those who hate us the voice of God, etc. Also different voices come with different impacts. (1 Corinthians 4:10b says there is not one of those voices without meaning. It is therefore experience for all believers to learn about the impact of the voices they listen to and the value of listening to God.

LESSON OUTLINE

THE IMPACTS OF VOICES

THE VALUE OF LISTENING TO GOD

1. THE IMPACTS OF VOICES

The voice you listen to affects your outcome. For instance,

Eve listened to the serpent (Genesis 3:1-7),

Samson listened to Delilah (Judges 16:6,17)

Amnon listened to Jonadab (2Samuel 13:4-14)

CONCLUSION: The voice you listen to determines your direction and destination. To end well, listen to the voice of God.
