TOPIC: Adultery And Fornication

MEMORY VERSE: “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” – 1 Corinthians 3:17

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Corinthians 6:15-20 (KJV)

15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.

16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.

17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

INTRODUCTION:

Sexual immorality is any habit or act that contradicts God’s laid down plan, principle and practice concerning sexual behaviour. Adultery and fornication are forms of sexual immorality. Other forms of sexual immorality are homosexuality, lesbianism, bestialism, incest, rape, masturbation, pornography, lustful desires and immoral thoughts.

Adultery and fornication are not just sins against God (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) but also against one’s soul (1 Peter 2:11) and body (1 Corinthians 6:18). In this lesson, we shall attempt to understand the meaning and causes of adultery and fornication, consider their inherent dangers as well as the antidotes or remedies.

LESSON OUTLINES

DESCRIPTION AND CAUSES

DANGERS AND ANTIDOTES

1. DESCRIPTION AND CAUSES

Adultery can simply be described as marital infidelity. Adultery is any illicit sexual relationship between a married person and other persons apart from his or her spouse. Also, adultery could mean sexual relationship between a married person and someone that is betrothed (engaged). Adultery and fornication are listed among the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19). “Thou shall not commit adultery” is among the first ten commandments given to Israel (Exodus 20:14). Adultery was regarded as a serious sin punishable by death (Leviticus 20:10; John 8:4-5). Adultery starts from the heart and the lust of the eyes (Matthew 5:27-28; 2 Peter 2:14).

Sexual immorality or intercourse between unmarried couples is called ‘fornication’. Fornication has gone viral among youth (even in the church) like never before (1 Corinthians 5:1). The temptation to commit fornication or adultery is common to all, but you do not have to fall for it (1 Corinthians 10:12-13).

Some of the likely causes of adultery are: untamed lustful desires (James 1:13-14); covetousness (Exodus 20:17); lack of contentment or satisfaction of a party (1Corinthians 7:2-5). Separation, divorce and remarriage are gateway to adultery (Matthew 19:9; Romans 7:2-3). Also, undefined relationship (1Corinthians 7:2) and unnecessarily prolonged courtship (1Corinthians 7:9).

2. DANGERS AND ANTIDOTES

Some of the dangers inherent in engaging in fornication and adultery are: loss of dignity and honour (Proverbs 6:32-33) exposure to and transfer of curse and affliction (Genesis 49:3-4); exposure to deadly diseases and unwanted pregnancies; untimely death as well as eternal destruction and separation from God (1 Corinthians 6:9; Hebrews 13:4b).

To be free from the bondage of fornication and adultery, the believer should have a consciousness of sin and fear God (Genesis 39:9; Romans 6:12-14); abstain from all appearances or resemblance of sexual immorality 1Thessalonians 5:22; 1Corinthians 6:18; Genesis 39:10-12); get married as soon as you are matured to do so (1Corinthians 7:2; Hebrews 13:4a); married couples should strive to mutually satisfy each other in all things and guard against infiltration of strange women and men (1Corinthians 7:35; Proverbs 5:18-20); always meditate on the word of god and depend on the strength of the Holy Spirit to exercise self-control (Philippians 4:8,13).

CONCLUSION

Sex before or outside marriage is totally forbidden by God (Ephesians 5:3). Saint must abstain from fornication (Acts 15:20, 29). Adultery as well as fornication kills.

Topic: Knowing God’s Will In Marriage

OPENING PRAYER: Father please help my heart from committing marital errors.

MEMORY VERSE: “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.”- Proverbs 18:22

BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 24:1-19 (KJV)

1 And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.

2 And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:

3 And I will make thee swear by the Lord, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:

4 But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.

5 And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?

6 And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again.

7 The Lord God of heaven, which took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.

8 And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.

9 And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning that matter.

10 And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.

11 And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.

12 And he said O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.

13 Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:

14 And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.

15 And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.

16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.

17 And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.

18 And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.

19 And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.

INTRODUCTION: Marriage is the intimate union or legal relationship between a husband and wife that should last for a lifetime (Genesis 2:21-23). distance taken before going into this journey are very important to prevent pitfalls knowing God’s will there you do not have to rely on god willing feelings and strange rituals as a child of God will have his word is spirit with angel and his minister to guide and counsel you

LESSON OUTLINE

RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD FIRST

PRE-MARITAL COUNSEL

1. RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD FIRST

Marriage is a creation of God. It is what started from him (Genesis 2:18) God will only guide his own (Jeremiah 10:23). He will not play a guessing game with his people (1Corinthians 14:33). He wants us to know and do is real and is actively involved in revealing it. Therefore, before seeking God’s will for marriage, develop a relationship with him. (psalm 119:130; psalm 119:105). You must not live your life in fear but in fellowship with God (2Timothy 1:7). Develop your god-given gift and master our God games with or guide your steps (psalm 85:8; psalm 37:23). Discover your purpose through a relationship with Jesus Christ. (John 18:37).This will reduce stress give your life meaning and prepare you for insanity (2Peter 1:3-4). You must be found working in his will (vineyard) like Adam and have a source of income (Genesis 15:18) because marriage is not for lazy people.

2. PRE-MARITAL COUNSEL

God does not want his children to be joined with unbelievers (2Corinthians 6:14-16; 1Corinthians 6:15-17). How then do we recognise God’s will in marriage?

Through the word of god (Proverbs 3:5-7). God has placed his word in our hand so we we could have a more objective set of guidelines to follow than dreams, feeling and impulses. Despite your dreams conviction, pray to have spiritual backing (Proverbs 18:22; Genesis 2:22; Proverbs 19:14).

God will work in you and do is we’ll even use circumstances and situations to perfect his will for your life (Romans 8:28; philippian 2:12-13). You must, therefore, remain sensitive; paying attention to those he opens and close to direct your paths.

Through the council of elders or spiritual heads in the church psalm 1:1; Proverbs 19:21; Proverbs 11:14: Proverbs 15:22; acts 1:24; Titus 2:3-5). Do not let passion for sex, peer/parental pressure, age, poverty etc, influence your instant decision. At such sensitive moment, do not despise godly counsel from spiritual heads (Proverbs 14:29b; Isaiah 52:12).

The environment’s you are and the friends you keep may also influence your choice. Therefore, keep company e with only believers of like passion (1Corinthians 15:33).

Pray fervently. You need to keep the channel of communication with God open, especially by praying without ceasing. This will key you to the mind of God concerning who and when to marry (1Corinthians 29:11).

CONCLUSION

Let God lead you and a choice of your marriage partner

TOPIC: The Glory Of The Youth

OPENING PRAYER: Father, let my life bring You pleasure and honour.

MEMORY VERSE: “The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head.”- Proverbs 20:29

BIBLE PASSAGE: Ecclesiastes 12:1-8 (KJV)

1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

2 While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:

3 In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,

4 And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;

5 Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:

6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.

7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

8 Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.

INTRODUCTION: Youthful stage is the period of human life between childhood and full adulthood. It is the state of being young. This is the period of human life in which everyone can exercise strength to the fullness of their capacity. The way you live your life as a youth will determine what will become of you at old age. In Ecclesiastes 12:1, the Bible says “Remember now your creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say “I have no pleasure in them.”

CHARACTERISTICS AND BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF A GLORIOUS YOUTH

MAXIMISING YOUR YOUTHFUL STRENGTH

1. CHARACTERISTICS AND BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF A GLORIOUS YOUTH

Glorious youths are not common people because they use their strength to achieve great results in their time. The word STRENGTH goes beyond physical power and emotional toughness. It is the totality of raw potentials given by God to fulfill specific purpose or to perform an assignment on earth (Jeremiah 1:5). This strength brings out the GLORY in a youth (1 Samuel 16:18). Your potentials and your strengths in life. If you want to soar higher in life, you must identify your potential and build your strength on it. Glorious youths are people who are willing to learn and act on what they have been taught (2 Timothy 2:1-2).

They have big dreams which they pursue relentlessly until they are fulfilled (Genesis 42:9). They are zealous and use their zeal creatively for the peace and progress of their nation (1 Samuel 17:32). They are people of great reputation (Genesis 39:9). Glorious youths are very creative and innovative in their chosen career (2Chronicles 2:14).

Youths in the Bible days did exploits and records of their works are noted for us to emulate today. Some of them include: Joseph (Genesis 41:38-46), David (1Samuel 17:19-37), Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (Daniel 3:16-18) Mary, (Luke 1:27-28) Timothy, (2Timothy 1:2-5) and Jesus (Luke 2:42-52). These are examples of young people who did not wait until they were all grown up to serve God. They were not the future. They were the presents. They made a huge impact in the world in their youth.

By the standard of the Bible, Christian youths are spiritually endowed to take the lead and subdue nations for Christ anywhere they find themselves in the world. Youths are to be in the fore front of revolutions (both physical and spiritual) in the time and age. Youths are to take control of every sector of leadership and economy of the world. Christian youths need to behave like children of Issachar, who understood the time and season.

2. MAXIMISING YOUR YOUTHFUL STRENGTH

The major prerequisite to serve God effectively in your youthful age is to give your life to Christ with no reservation. There are many areas of strength that every youth must harness and maximize for Kingdom profitability. Here are some of them:

Speech: Talk in a way that honours God (Ephesians 4:25-29). Stop telling lies: only use words that are true because God is truthful (Colossians 4:6). Use words that are gentle (Proverbs 15:1). Gentleness means to remain calm and kind, even when you are angry. Do not shout or use harsh words. Use word that are pure. No cursing or use of dirty words. Use words that are loving. Do not hurt people with your words nor talk about them behind their back. Use your words to encourage, teach, comfort, give good advice and build them up in the way of the lord (Ephesians 4:29).

Life: Imitate Christ with your action (1John 2:6). Read your Bible everyday so that you can learn what Christ is like. You cannot act like Christ if you do not know what he is like. Obey God’s word whenever you read the Bible. Also, in every situation of Life, ask yourself, “What would Jesus do?”, and then do it.

Love: Do everything with love. Being a Christian is all about love. Jesus said the greatest commandment is love (Matthew 22:37-40; 1Corinthians 14:1; 1Corinthians 16:14). Let Love be your highest goal. If you want to serve God in your youth, then, do everything with love. Make your life all about love (John 3:16).

Faith: Have unwavering confidence in God. Faith is confidence in God, that he is who he says he is and will do what he says he will do (Hebrews 11:1). The best and perhaps the only way to set an example of unwavering faith is in the face of trials. Trials are faith tests. When the storms of Life hit. Do not doubt God. Do not get angry with him (Romans 8:28).

Purity: Strive for total sexual purity. God’s will for our sexuality is to keep all sexual activities in marriage-visual, mental, emotional, and physical. This applies to single people and married people (1Thessalonians 4:35; Romans 12:1-2).

CONCLUSION: God wants you to serve him in your youth by duly committing yourself to him (Proverbs 3:5-8). Do not wait for adulthood. Rather, begin right. The best way to start serving God is by setting an example for others to follow. Be an exemplary Christian. Set an example of a fully-devoted Christian, and God will use you in a mighty way.

EVALUATION: Mention some of the area of strength the youths need to maximise.

QUESTIONS:

What are the characteristics of a glorious youth?

How can you maximize your youthful strength?

House Fellowship Leader Manual for Mach 2022, – Lot’s Wife (Part One)

TOPIC: Lot’s Wife (Part One)

OPENING PRAYER: Father, please help us to love righteousness and hate iniquity.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The leader should ask members what they understood from the last topic.

MEMORY VERSE: “Remember Lot’s wife.” – Luke 17:32

BIBLE TEXT: Genesis 19:17-26 (KJV)

17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:

19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:

20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.

21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.

22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.

24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;

25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: The story of Lot is quite incredible one. The Bible says he left with Abraham when God called him (Abraham) out of his country. Lot later separated from his uncle (Abraham) and went to live in Sodom and Gomorrah with his wife and his two daughters. Sodom and Gomorrah sinned against God and God decided to wipe of the entire city from the surface of the earth. As God did not spare this country, He will not do otherwise to the generation according to Jesus Christ in Matthew 10:15 “Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.”

LEADERS DIARY

TIME MANAGEMENT: Share the teaching time using the suggested time schedule.

LESSON OUTLINE

GOD HAD DESTROYED GENERATION OR COUNTRY BEFORE

Noah’s generation was destroyed. Genesis 6:7-13.

In this generation, they began to disobey all the laid down instructions of God. Jesus mentioned this during His ministry on earth Matthew 24:37-39.

Sodom and Gomorrah was also destroyed. 2 Peter 2:6. As we have seen in the introduction above, no country will escape the full wrath of God.

ANY ESCAPE ROUTE?

There is always a way out of sin from God. 2 Chronicles 7:14. God expects everyone to repent from their evil ways. And embrace the remedy put in place by him (God). And Jesus is this remedy to this perverse generation. John 3:17-18.

ACTIVITY: Why did lot wife look back?

SUMMARY: As believers we should be obedient to God’s instructions, So that we don’t end up our life like lot’s wife.

CONCLUSION: Sodom and Gomorrah did not escape God’s punishment for sin. It will not be otherwise for this generation.

TOPIC: Bridging Parent-Child Gap

MEMORY VERSE: “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.” – Genesis 18:19

BIBLE PASSAGE: Psalms 127:1-5 (King James Version)

1 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

INTRODUCTION: Parenting refers to the aspects of raising a child from infancy to adulthood. the most common partaker is the biological parents of the child. Parenting in the 21st century involves parent-child relationship. The parents-child relationship must be based on love, truth, openness, honor, obedience, discipline and provision. Parenting can be difficult and challenging, but at the same time the most rewarding and fulfilling things we ever do. The Bible has a great deal to say about the way we can successfully raise our children to be great men and women of God. It is easier to train a child than to repair an adult.

LESSON OUTLINES

Parenting: Old And Modern

Divine Expectation

1. Parenting: Old And Modern

The parenting as of old: Mary and Joseph are examples of good parents in the Bible days. They invested all they had in baby Jesus. They knew when the child was in trouble i.e. when king Herod wanted to kill the child (Matthew 2:13-15). They made sure baby Jesus was always taken to the temple (Luke 2:22-24, 41-42). They brought him up in the way of the Lord.

Eli in the Bible the father of Hophni and Phinehas, is an example of a parent who refuse to train his children in the right way (1 Samuel 4:13-21).

Modern parenting: In this generation parents indulge their children, all in the name of ‘What I suffer my children should not’. This has led to the falling standard of discipline. These days, many parents leave the training of their children to house helps, nannies, electronic gadgets, teachers and churches. Many parents are now career-conscious at the expense of giving their children good attention for proper training.

However, in this age of digital technologies, it is important that parents get acquainted with the internet and the various social media handles – (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp Tick-Tok). This is because information and communication now flow through these Media at an alarming rate and it is expedient that parents bridge this generational gap by being compliant.

2.DIVINE EXPECTATION

God expects that parents should do the under listed.

Apply the rod of correction (Proverbs 22:15). This is not the rod of abuse, but correction. An abused child will suffer great trauma, but a child who is properly corrected we enjoy peace.

Discipline promptly (Proverbs 13:24). Discipline has to do with understanding the various ways of correcting wrong doing with the goal of inculcating the confidence to do right always. A parent does not love his child if he fails to apply the rod of correction when necessary (Proverbs 23:13-14; Proverbs 29:15-17)

Begin training early (Proverbs 19:18). Many lives have been ruined due to the negligence of some parents by excusing or overlooking the wrongdoings of their children instead of correcting them early

Be a role model (2Timothy 1:5)

Teach them the word of God (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)

CONCLUSION: God is keenly interested in you and your parenting responsibility. You should partner with God by studying His word and following His leading for Success.

QUESTION:

Compared and contrast between the old and modern parenting

Mention five expectations of God on parenting.

FURTHER READINGS:

Monday: Colossians 3:21 (KJV)

Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

Tuesday: Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Wednesday: Psalm 8:2 (KJV)

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

Thursday: Ephesians 6:1-2 (KJV)

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

Friday: Exodus 20:12 (KJV)

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

Saturday: Ephesians 6:4 (KJV)

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Sunday: Psalm 127:1 (KJV)

Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention ten (10) factors which could make godly parenting difficult.
